Brian Bates - Game Designer

About

My name is Brian Bates and since finishing my degree from MIT in 2020, I've been a professional game designer for 3 years.  I started my career as a a designer at Gather.town, where I designed social multiplayer experiences on the Phaser framework. At Gather.town, I served as Lead Designer the Virtual Events division. As part of this role, I coordinated an interdisciplinary team to create a launch video that reached 460,000 people. Also at Gather.town, I ran workshops with third party designers covering best design practices using Tiled, Aseprite, and Gather.town's platform. After moving on from Gather.town, I continued my design work as freelancer, where I consulted with clients directly on how to best adapt a game environment to their needs.

Recently, I've been working as a game designer for P1-OM on their title Sky Jellies, built on Unity. At P1-OM, I am working with Miro to leverage the central narrative of the game to reinforce the core gameplay mechanics.

On the side, I'm an avid Magic: The Gathering player, and have spent much of my free time designing custom Elden Ring-themed Magic cards and curating them into a draft environment.

I am looking for a game design role. If you think I could be a good fit for your project, please reach out!
